Jan Wijn - piano

Jan Wijn studied at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Cornelis Berkhout. He continued his studies with Bela Siki and Alicia de Larrocha. In 1960 he won the first prize at the International Piano Concourse in Orense, Spain. This was the start of e remarkable career. In his own country he gave many recitals and performed as a soloist with all Dutch Symphony Orchestras, many times with the Royal Concertgebouworkest. Hij performed in the UK, France and Germany and toured in Rumania, Brazil and Russia.

In 1976 he had to end his career due to paralysis at his right hand. He has since then focused on playing piano music for the left hand. Since 1967 Jan Wijn has been teaching at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where he has educated many successful students.

Jan Wijn often gives masterclasses in and outside the Netherlands and he is a popular jury member for concourses.
